Mission Statement
“We are here to share the Good News of Jesus Christ
and to reach out in his love to all people.”
What is “the Good News of Jesus Christ”?
The “Good News” is what God has done for us, his gracious action, as he created the universe, created us in his image, sent his Son that we might share his eternal gift, and he speaks to us today through his Word. This is the Good News that we come to know what God has done for us.
Who are “We”?
“We”, children of God, believers in what God has done for us, all the people of St. John's Lutheran Church, being in and of the body of Christ, are “called out”. We are called out, individually and together, to study God’s Word so that we can be equipped to serve him, to be stewards of all that is his and to grow in his spirit. This implies an ongoing action on our part, a lifestyle.
What is “Sharing the Good News”?
“Sharing the Good News” is encouraging others to come to know God and what he has done for us. To do this it is essential that we come to know Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and Lord, become more like Christ, and….
“Reach out in his love to all people.”
“Reaching out in his love” is first being concerned for a person’s physical, emotional and spiritual well being. We then will reflect his truth and love shining through us by building relationships and by responding to their needs. Our ministry is to all people, in our families, in our church, in our community and to the ends of the earth.
Why should we want to do this?
It is simply out of appreciation and gratitude for what he has done for us that we want to serve him. It is when we begin to understand his almighty power that we learn how weak we are and need his amazing grace. It is when we fellowship with him and with each other in the church, the body of Christ, that his service is fulfilled and our faith is strengthened. We do this with confidence knowing and living in the trust and hope of his eternal gift.
