Community Action Council

The Community Action Council is a nonprofit dedicated to helping families in crisis get back on their feet, with the help of over 2,000 volunteers working out of more than 50 locations in Dakota and Scott counties.  CAC also works with the larger community on crisis prevention to minimize long term costs to our community and improve our overall quality of life.

Armful of Love

Just as Community Action Council's network of food shelves are much more than feeding the hungry, Armful of Love does more than help provide gifts during the holidays.  One prong of CAC's mission is to help people achieve long-term self-sufficiency and Armful of Love is the beginning of that process.  CAC's family support workers spend time with each family needing help to find out how they got to this point, and how we can help them stabilize their situation and become economically successful.  Many families continue working with other CAC services and community resources to ensure that next year, they will be in a better position to provide their own holiday gifts and household necessities.  Usually people just need a little help during a crisis to get set on the right path again.
