WELCA-Women of the ELCA
The mission of the Women of the ELCA is to mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.
Our goals:
- To achieve sustainable intergenerational connections that are meaningful and relevant.
- To build communities that are cohesive, diverse, dynamic, compassionate and just; based on common interests, concerns and commitments.
- To authentically name, voice and respond to issues affecting women through awareness, education, action, and advocacy.
Purpose statement:
“ As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. We commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society and the world.”
These goals and purposes are accomplished through organization and emphasis in the areas of Mission Action, Mission Growth and Mission Community.
Participation:
All women are encouraged and invited to share their gifts through leadership, committee work, circles and attendance at special events of the church. We are a member of the Synodical Women’s Organization and of the Churchwide Women of the ELCA. St. John's leadership committee meets the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Publications:
Updates and announcements for women’s events and activities will be found in the monthly publication, the St. John's Journal, and in the weekly Sunday bulletins.
Lutheran Woman Today is a monthly magazine format published by the church-wide Women of the ELCA, which includes a Bible Study, faith articles, book reviews, and inspirational offerings. The websites
Boldcafe and
