Mission Community builds relationships among women of faith. These relationships are disciple relationships, which include God, family, other persons of faith, the global community, Women of the ELCA units, and the unchurched.

  • The Scandinavian Dinner is traditionally held the second weekend in November. The dinner serves members and is open to the general public. The family-style dinner features the traditional Norwegian lutefisk and Swedish meatballs along with other dishes.
  • A bake sale is held in conjunction with the dinner and features homebaked goodies provided by the families of the congregation.
  • Lenten meals are served each Wednesday during Lent for the benefit of the Bloomington Loaves and Fishes program.
  • All fund-raisers assist and support programs of St. John's and other local and area agencies.

Mission Action involves participation in direct servant roles. We act to ensure that all people have access to basic human needs, equality, justice and safety. This includes developing active partnerships with workers to provide tangible goods and services.

  • A Mitten Tree for needy families is sponsored each December.  Mittens, scarves and hats are donated and collected in the church narthex.
  • St. John's quilting program meets twice monthly at the church. Hundreds of quilts are constructed and donated each year.
  • Women’s gatherings are held three times each year. Each gathering features educational and spiritual programs, dinner, and fellowship.
  • Various other action projects may be on-going and/or may change.
  • St. John's women assist in the Prayer Shawl Ministry.
  • St. John's women assist in the Prayer Chain Ministry.
  • Our spring mission activity will follow the leadership of the South Saint Paul Synod Women's Annual Convention designation for 2010 and will benefit specific projects of the ELCA Churchwide Organization.

Mission Growth nurtures spiritual growth by enabling and encouraging women to share the good news in their daily lives. It provides opportunities for each woman to identify her own gifts and leadership skills and makes resources for Bible study and Personal faith development.
